WE'RE #ENGAGED!

I want to share some exciting news! Eric and I got engaged on Christmas Eve! For those of you who are new to me, we've been together for 3 years. He has two teen boys who looked up after the proposal and said, "cool." So I guess they are on board.
Our story began when I made a new friend in a work-related class. She says, "normally I don't do this, but I want you meet someone. Does a Black Polo player sound sexy to you?" And I'm thinking, "Where is this dude from? Jamaica? London?" But, she told me he was from Virginia, had two little boys and was a widower since her best friend passed away years ago. She thought we had a lot in common, including a love of history. I was honored to be trusted with this special introduction. And luckily, I had done lots of coaching around dating, getting clarity, and letting go of some baggage. So, I was open to a date. I thought, "I can go have lunch. No biggie."
That lunch turned into 3 years of phone calls, dates, weekend trips, and growing closer in love, commitment, and friendship. But, if I'm honest, I didn't always think this was possible. There are definitely some mindset challenges I had to work out when it comes to love and money. I had some of the same doubts to overcome that you may have, like:
(1) Finding love is hard for a high earning career woman
(2) If you get married, the fun and freedom I hold so dear will be taken away.
(3) I wanted to find someone "equally yoked" in finances and drive, but wrestled with the fear of being seen as a "gold digger" or heartless career woman.
So I would be remiss as your Money Savvy Sista if we didn't address how love, dating, and marriage affect your money. We will be talking about love and money all week at 7pm. Let me know what resonated with you in the comments.
